Is anyone able to point me in the right direction to get started? I need some advice on what locations to go to and where I could maybe get a few lessons first.
As you come from Basingstoke your local climbs are a little limited locally. I would suggest, if you are mobile, you check out Calshot Activity Centre http://www.calshot.com/climb.html They have a good range of courses for the beginner and are really helpful and welcoming. I would really recommend this place if you can get there.

It might not hurt to also work on individual core, arms and hand strength. Maybe even build a wall to practice your balance and technique.

RE: New beginner
finger strength will make a massive diffence to the level you climb at – get one of those gripmasters or similar they work v good
