Hi
Welcome to east Lancashire,

if you looking to start trad climbing the best thing I can recommend is you get yourself a guide and head up to the lakes for the day, he will be able to show you the ropes pretty quick.

There are few indoor walls in the area, the one I use for lead climbing is west view leisure centre over in Preston, for a leisure centre it’s got a good wall, they also run climbing courses, also in Blackburn we have boulder UK, and in Rochdale, Climb Rochdale this wall is ok, but not that good for leading.

The best gear shop I have found is Fell and Mountain on Water Street in Accrington they have a good selection of kit, and if they don’t have they will order it for you. They also have a mountain guide working for them who might be able to take you out for a day.

Best of luck in your climbing, if you need any advice on any local climbs or where to go climbing or need a climbing partner just give me an email, me and my partner free every Sunday

Take care KJBIX

Hi, welcome! lol

Personally its best to get own equipment, just so you feel comfortable in your own harness and be a better fit? same goes with shoes. Thats my opinion anyway, im sure other people have different! If theres an indoor climbing place in Burnley, I know theres a great place in Liverpool in a cathederal! then you can place an ad on their wall looking for outdoor climber wanted etc etc. Im sure one of the regulars there would be willing to show u the ropes on the knots n belaying before u get to the great outdoors! rather than paying for an instructor to show u!

Hope this helps

New Climbers in Burnley, Looking for some guidance???

Hi everyone!

My man and I have been regularly bouldering for years. We have never bought any equipment so is all free climbing, which means we won’t do anything too difficult in case we fall!!

We’d like to try some ‘proper’ climbing and to get some equioment in, but need to be literally ‘shown the ropes’ first! Maybe a climbing group where we could hire/borrow some equipment at first, or some well seasoned climbers happy to help us out?

Any ideas…?
